After enjoying a lovely fat Tuesday evening with friends, Lent is upon us. What is Lent? Without going into too much detail, it is the 40 day period that leads up to Easter. During this time, people may choose to forgo something that means a lot to them, whether it is some type of food, a favourite TV show, blogging (never!), Facebook (Lord have mercy!) and so on. I do not remember the last time I took part in forgoing anything for Lent, but this year, I have decided to give up meat.

Yes, meat. But look on the brighter side, I have a lot of vegetarian dishes to discover and share, and if you have been keeping up to date with my Facebook page, you would have had a sneak preview of my meal trials. For me though, it is not just about INDULGING in vegetarian food, I really want to take this time of forgoing a few things in order to reconnect and pray. I am blessed, and I have so much to be thankful for.

    Ijo, I’ve been too shy to Google what Lent is. Thanks for the heads up. 🙂 Heish, all them thing: meat…maybe red meat. 40 days is no joke!
    Anywho, will try out one of your veggie dishes in the next 40 days! 🙂

      Thank you Una! Having being raised up Anglican when I was little, before bo “ramakashanda superbaricuda konkass”, I always knew about the 40 days of Lent. I do not take it as a prescriptive MUST DO OR ELSE kinda thing or label it as something tied to a specific denomination, but I think now is not a bad time to take time out for an extended period to focus on prayer.

    Wishing you a blessed Lenten season. 🙂 Giving up meat might just be an instinctively “African choice”; as Copts & Orthodox Christians abstain from meat throughout Lent.

    Its the way of the “old Church”; so I’m sure that there will be MANY Africans glad to see your posts and happy to diversify their usual or traditional vegetarian/vegan (no meat, egg or dairy; but fish & seafood are OK for some) with some of your creative and delicious recipes!

    Plus, you might just noticed your Eritrean, Ethiopian and Egyptian followers grow in the process 😉
