Portuguese Country Cooking School

One of the highlights of my getaway was indulging in a Portuguese Cooking lesson. It was so quick and convenient to organise. In fact much to my surprise, I was able to book on a Sunday night for the following day thanks to GoLearnto.com and the accommodating staff at the cookery school.

How to get there is an interesting story in itself.

The day started with an introduction of my itinerary. I had a visit at the local market to look forward to in Aljezur, which would determine what we would cook throughout the day. We would also be making bread from scratch once I made acquaintances with the wood fired brick oven.

What we ended up making was phenomenal as it all came out of Frannie’s head as we went along. The day saw us make the following:

What a good eye! We hunted for sardines but could not find fresh ones so opted for these, I forgot what they were called, and in Portuguese, carapau I think, which is mackerel or like mackerel, though it did not taste like mackerel at all.
